We love welcoming visitors to our distillery and offer tours of the distillery and tastings of our products. Bookings are essential as we are a working distillery and certain options may not be available if we are busy with production.

The distillery is wheelchair friendly, although ablution facilities are constrained. Please call ahead for clarification.
The Distillery Mini-tour is a quick visit to our working distillery where you can learn a little bit about the manufacture of craft spirits. We don’t get very technical about the science and technology behind distilling on this tour: the tour is guided by one of our Spirits Ambassadors.
During the tour you will walk around the distillery to identify the key items of equipment that a craft distillery needs, and to see the different kinds of products that are in the process of being made. We discuss how different spirits are made (especially rums, vodka and gins). Depending on our production schedule, you may get to see a real distillation or fermentation taking place, sample the aromas and flavours of our gin recipe library, or have a small taste of what is in the various barrels and tanks.
Duration: 20-30 minutes
Price: Complimentary when done as part of a Tasting
The Distiller’s Guided Technical Tour is a more technical tour where we cover more of the science and technique behind the spirits we make. The tour is by arrangement only, and only suitable for individuals or small groups as it needs to be fitted around the activities in the distillery.
The tour provides an opportunity for more technical questions about the practices we use in preparing, fermenting, distilling, and general spirits manufacture, and will typically be of interest for home brewers and distillers with some practical experience, or other distillers and people in the liquor industry. It is, however, not a master class in distilling, nor a training course in how to distill.
Duration: 30-90 minutes
Price: By arrangement
Although you may get a sneak preview of some of our products during the distillery tour, the tastings allow you to explore the products we make to their fullest. We offer a range of tasting formats, depending on your spirit preference and the time you have available.
Tasting times:
Normal tasting hours are on Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (last tour at 3:30) throughout the year.
Please phone to make a reservation (+27 21 7830129) or email us at bookings@deepsouthdistillery.co.za the day before you plan to come.
Reservations are especially important as our tastings are popular and we have limited capacity – we would hate to disappoint you just because we have a large tour group in the building!
We are also open for tastings on Wednesdays, Thursday and Sundays during parts of the year. And we will also do our utmost to accommodate you for tastings outside of our normal hours if we possibly can, so please contact us with your request.
Our most popular tasting and usually done in conjunction with the complimentary Mini Tour, this tasting allows you to experience three of our award-winning gins, each paired with its ‘perfect serve’ mixer and selected garnish.
We guide you as you ‘taste through the layers’ exploring some of the different ways in which gin can be enjoyed. As you build your gin cocktails, you will come to appreciate how everything you add to the gin cocktail (even ice!) will change and enhance the taste and aromas of the spirit.
Our goal is for you to create a perfectly-balanced G&T, that delights all of the senses: taste, aroma, visual appeal, touch and even hearing (that clink of perfect ice on glass!)
Duration: 45-60 minutes (depending on you!)
Price: R150 per person
Dare we say it, but some of our visitors are not partial to gin (gasp!). Fortunately, we also make delectable rum, a wicked chilli vodka, a smooth-as-silk premium vodka, and a few other things that take our fancy from time to time.
The standard Spirits Tasting Experience comprises our Premium Vodka and our two Rums – all multiple medal winners. You will taste the spirit neat, and then add ingredients to build specific signature cocktails for each of the spirits. While these cocktails are not the only way to enjoy the spirits, it helps you to appreciate at least a few ways in which the spirit can be enjoyed.
You can taste just a single spirit if you want (designated drivers note!), or even three or four. Or try some of the Distillers Curiosities, like the chilli Vodka or a Schnapps made from seasonal fruit.
Duration: 15-20 minutes per spirit (depending on how many you taste!)
Price: R50 per signature cocktail tasting
In a rush, but like to sample the gin or the rum before you buy that perfect gift? Can’t choose which two out of our three lovely gins you want to put into our Double Trouble Gift box?
No problem. We can do a Try-before-you-buy tasting at the bar.
Depending on the spirit, we prep for you a mini tasting of either a single shot of spirit or a mini cocktail (e.g. a little G&T in a small glass). It gives you a chance to quickly sample the spirit, much as you might do at a booth in a bottle store. And sorry – we can only do this if we are not busy – so generally this is for folks who pop in to buy during the week.
Duration: 3-5 minutes per spirit (depending on how many you taste!)
Price: R20 per taster. Free if you buy a bottle afterwards.
It is possible to schedule private tastings and events in the distillery, usually in the evenings. Typical events are birthday parties , hen and bachelor parties and private visits by gin clubs, societies and team building. Private events require a minimum number of people and a charge is levied for the use of the facilities.
We can do customised tours and tastings for exclusive private groups outside of our normal public tasting days. On our normal tasting daysyou can still make a group booking.
Minimum numbers apply. Please contact bookings@deepsouthdistillery.co.za with your request.
The distillery is available for private events and parties, with or without a tour and tasting as an option. We can provide a bar and catering on request
We need to comply with our licensing regulations so not all events may be permissible. Please contact bookings@deepsouthdistillery.co.za with your request.
We are able to provide pop-up gin bars, and tasting counters at your next event, market day or festival. If the event is a public event, then a liquor licence (event licence) may be needed.
