Nowadays, most martinis you order at a bar won’t contain bitters, but the original recipe was actually made with equal parts gin, dry vermouth and a couple dashes of orange bitters! Enjoy this classic cocktail in its (almost) original form, just as James Bond would like it!

Deep South Three Citrus Gin is a spirit completely made for for the Dry Martini.  It needs to be made with ice-cold gin, a splash of vermouth, a dash of bitters and a carefully matched garnish of citrus or savoury flavour – lemon-stuffed olives would be perfect.  Serve very, very cold, in chilled glasses.

  • 50ml Deep South Three Citrus Gin, very chilled
  • 12 ml Dry Vermouth
  • 3 dashes of Deep South Orange Bitters
  • Stuffed or pitted green olives on a cocktail stick
  • Twist of lemon zest
  • Ice

To make

  1. Place martini glasses into the freezer for 10 minutes to chill.
  2. Prepare your garnish before you make the cocktail
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker with two handsful of ice. Pour in gin and vermouth, and add a couple shakes of orange bitters
  4. Shake well, 15 seconds, and then strain  into the cold dry glass
  5. Add garnish

Variation

For a  Dirty Martini , add a small amount of brine from your pickle or olive jar to give the drink a salty savoury taste.
